Questions homeowners actually ask.

Base depths, permits, timelines, what's subcontracted and what isn't. If your question isn't here, call (647) 473-3454 and ask — we'd rather answer it before you sign than after.

How much does an interlocking driveway cost?

It's driven by square footage, what's under the existing surface, access, disposal volume and paver tier. We publish our build spec rather than a headline price we'd have to walk back on site — call and we'll give you a range over the phone in about a minute, then confirm it in writing after a free site visit.

How deep should the base be under a driveway?

300 mm — twelve inches — of compacted Granular A, placed in 75–100 mm lifts with compaction between each one, over non-woven geotextile. Walkways and patios get 150 mm. See how we build for the full section.

How long does the work take?

A typical two-car driveway is three to five working days. Patios run two to four. Decks depend on height and permit requirements. Interiors vary widely — a kitchen refinish is a week, a full basement is several. Your written scope gives you the window before we start.

Do you need a permit for a deck, driveway or basement in Ontario?

Decks generally need one above roughly 600 mm from grade. Replacing a driveway in its existing footprint usually doesn't, but widening it or cutting a new curb needs municipal approval. Finished basements need a building permit and, if you're creating a second unit, fire code compliance and ESA involvement. Thresholds differ between municipalities and we confirm yours before quoting.

What's the difference between interlock, stamped concrete and asphalt?

Interlock is individual units on a flexible base — a damaged area lifts and resets. Stamped concrete is a single slab: excellent looking, but a crack is permanent. Asphalt is cheapest up front and needs resealing. In freeze-thaw conditions the flexible system tolerates ground movement best.

What happens if my interlock settles after winter?

Call us. Minor settling in the first season isn't unusual and lifting and resetting a small area is straightforward work. Whether it's covered depends on the cause and on the warranty terms in your written scope — which we'd rather agree in writing up front than argue about later.

Do you handle disposal and cleanup?

Yes. Excavated material is hauled away as part of the job and the site is swept at the end of each working day.

Do you work in winter?

Yes. Interior work — basements, flooring, tile, drywall, paint and cabinet refinishing — runs right through the winter. Excavation and paving are the parts the weather governs: once the ground is frozen we book that for spring rather than build on ground we can't compact properly. Spring hardscaping fills up over the winter.

How far in advance should I book spring work?

Sign over the winter for April–June work. Spring fills from January onward, and booking late is the main reason people end up with whoever happens to be available.

What should I ask any contractor before signing?

How deep is the base and in how many lifts is it compacted? Is there geotextile between base and subgrade? Are the pavers 60 mm or 80 mm? What's the slope away from the house? Who carries the permit, and which parts are subcontracted to licensed trades? Vague answers to any of those tell you what you're buying.

Which parts of the work do you subcontract?

Electrical, plumbing and gas — always, because Ontario makes those compulsory trades. Electrical goes to a Licensed Electrical Contractor with the ESA notification under their licence. Everything in the hardscaping and general interior range is our own crew. We tell you which is which before you sign.

What areas do you cover?

Markham, Richmond Hill, Stouffville, Aurora, Newmarket, Vaughan, Uxbridge, Pickering, Ajax, Scarborough, North York and King City. Elsewhere in the GTA, call and ask.
