Preparation
- Clear and clean the slab
- Diamond grinding, not acid etch
- Crack routing and repair
- Spall and pit patching
- Moisture check before anything is applied
Skipped grinding is why coatings fail.

FOUR40 coats garage, basement, utility and shop floors across the GTA — diamond-ground preparation, crack repair before coating, and flake, metallic or solid-colour finishes. Free on-site estimates.
What's included
A floor coating is only as good as the surface under it. Most of the labour and all of the difference sits in the day before the colour goes down.
Skipped grinding is why coatings fail.
Unheated garages are scheduled around temperature, not squeezed into winter.
The section
We have not photographed a finished floor of our own yet, and we will not borrow a supplier's. So here is the build instead — drawn to the system we use. Four layers over concrete that has been opened up mechanically, not chemically.
Ask any coating quote how the slab is prepared. If the answer is acid etching rather than diamond grinding, that is the answer that decides whether the coating is still down in five years.
Reserved: the floor as found, cracks and all.
Reserved: diamond grinder mid-run.
Reserved: flake going down over the base coat.
Reserved: the finished floor with the door open and the reflection showing.
In the meantime, the work on our gallery page shows the standard of finish and site tidiness you can expect from the same crew.
What it costs
We publish real numbers rather than "it depends" — but only once they're ours to publish. Our written ranges are being finalised; call and we'll give you one over the phone in a minute. What moves the number:
Working with us
We measure, check drainage and grade, and talk through what you actually want. Free, and no pressure to sign anything.
Scope, materials, base depth and price in writing. You'll know exactly what's included before a shovel moves.
Ontario One Call locates booked, materials ordered, start date confirmed. A realistic window, not an optimistic one.
Excavation, base, compaction, install. Site cleaned at the end of each day — you still have to live there.
We walk it together before final payment. Anything on your list gets fixed, then we're back if settling shows up.
Questions
Diamond grinding, every time. Acid etching is faster and cheaper and it is the single most common reason a garage floor coating peels in year two. Grinding opens the concrete profile mechanically so the coating keys into it. If a quote you are comparing does not say how the floor is prepared, that is the question to ask.
It depends on the space. Coatings need the substrate above roughly 10 °C, and most GTA garages are unheated from November to March. Heated basements, utility rooms and shop floors are fine year-round; unheated garages are either tented and heated or scheduled for spring. We will tell you which applies to yours rather than coating a cold slab and hoping.
Repaired before coating, not covered by it. Cracks are opened, filled and ground flush; spalled and pitted areas are patched. A coating follows the shape of what is underneath — it hides nothing.
Typically light foot traffic after 24 hours and vehicles after 72, depending on the product and the temperature. Polyaspartic systems cure considerably faster and tolerate lower temperatures, which is what makes them worth the extra cost in a Canadian garage.
Flake is the most forgiving in a working garage — it hides dust and tyre marks and gives grip. Metallic looks spectacular and shows everything. Plain solid colour is cheapest and the least tolerant of an imperfect slab.
