What's included
Everything your roof sheds ends up somewhere. Eavestrough decides whether that is four metres from your foundation or directly against it — which makes it the cheapest basement-flooding prevention you can buy.
Downspout disconnection is a condition of Toronto's flood subsidy.
What it costs
We publish real numbers rather than "it depends" — but only once they're ours to publish. Our written ranges are being finalised; call and we'll give you one over the phone in a minute. What moves the number:
Working with us
We measure, check drainage and grade, and talk through what you actually want. Free, and no pressure to sign anything.
Scope, materials, base depth and price in writing. You'll know exactly what's included before a shovel moves.
Ontario One Call locates booked, materials ordered, start date confirmed. A realistic window, not an optimistic one.
Excavation, base, compaction, install. Site cleaned at the end of each day — you still have to live there.
We walk it together before final payment. Anything on your list gets fixed, then we're back if settling shows up.
Questions
Five-inch K-style handles most GTA houses. Six-inch is worth it on a large or steep roof, on a long run with few downspouts, and anywhere the existing trough visibly overshoots in a heavy storm. The trough size matters less than the number of downspouts — one more outlet usually does more than a bigger trough.
The trough is roll-formed on site to the exact length of your run, so there are no joints along it — only at corners and outlets. Joints are where eavestroughs leak, so fewer is better. It is a genuine improvement rather than a sales line.
Onto grade, extended well clear of the foundation and running downhill from there. Not into the sewer — disconnection is required in much of the GTA, and in Toronto having your downspouts disconnected is a condition of the basement flooding subsidy. Not into a splash block six inches from the wall either, which is where a surprising number of wet basements begin.
Yes, and if the fascia behind the trough is soft, you should. Hanging new eavestrough on rotten fascia is money spent on something that will pull away. The trough has to come off to replace the board, so doing both at once costs far less than doing them a year apart.
Under mature trees, usually yes. Everywhere else they are a convenience rather than a necessity, and the cheap ones clog on top instead of inside, which is harder to clear. Worth doing properly or not at all.
