Refinish route
- Doors and frames sprayed
- New hardware and hinges
- Backsplash and paint
- Kitchen usable throughout most of it
The largest saving available.

Two decisions explain most of the range: whether the cabinets are refinished or replaced, and whether anything wet moves. Everything else is a preference. This page sets out both, and what to plan around.

The drivers
Ranked by how much difference each one makes. The top row is usually the entire difference between two quotes.
| What changes | Effect on price | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Refinish vs replace cabinets | Very large | One is a finish; the other is a kitchen plus counters plus lead times. |
| Moving wet points | Large | Licensed plumber, opened floor or wall, and often electrical too. |
| Counter material | Large | Mid-tier quartz to premium natural stone is a wide band. |
| Backsplash pattern | Moderate | Herringbone and mosaic are considerably slower than stack or running bond. |
| Flooring included | Moderate | Adds area, transitions and door trimming. |
| Appliance changes | Moderate | New gas or a different circuit brings a regulated trade. |
| Kitchen size | Scales with cabinet run | Counters and cabinets track linear footage closely. |
Getting a number
We publish real numbers rather than "it depends" — but only once they're ours to publish. Our written ranges are being finalised; call and we'll give you one over the phone in a minute. What moves the number:
Questions
Substantially — it is the largest saving available in a kitchen and the reason we lead with the question. If the boxes are solid and the layout works, you are buying a finish rather than a kitchen.
Counter fabrication. Templating happens after cabinets are set, and fabrication is typically one to two weeks after that. Nothing else in the job is as fixed, which is why it goes into the schedule first.
More than people expect. It brings a licensed plumber, possible floor or wall opening, and often electrical changes for a dishwasher. Layouts that keep the wet points where they are get done faster and cheaper.
Refinishing rather than replacing cabinets, keeping the layout, and choosing a mid-tier quartz over a premium slab. Those three decisions between them usually move the number more than everything else combined.
