Base
- Excavated to depth
- Non-woven geotextile
- Free-draining granular base
- Compacted in lifts
- Graded to shed water
Identical method to a patio base.

FOUR40 installs artificial turf across the GTA as a hardscape build — excavated, geotextile, compacted free-draining base, then turf seamed, secured and infilled. Not lawn maintenance: turf installation. Free on-site estimates.
What's included
Everything that goes wrong with artificial turf — ripples, low spots, standing water — comes from the base beneath it. It is the same trade as a patio, with a different surface on top.

What it costs
We publish real numbers rather than "it depends" — but only once they're ours to publish. Our written ranges are being finalised; call and we'll give you one over the phone in a minute. What moves the number:
Working with us
We measure, check drainage and grade, and talk through what you actually want. Free, and no pressure to sign anything.
Scope, materials, base depth and price in writing. You'll know exactly what's included before a shovel moves.
Ontario One Call locates booked, materials ordered, start date confirmed. A realistic window, not an optimistic one.
Excavation, base, compaction, install. Site cleaned at the end of each day — you still have to live there.
We walk it together before final payment. Anything on your list gets fixed, then we're back if settling shows up.
Questions
No, and that is exactly why cheap turf installations ripple, sink and hold water. Turf is a hardscape build: excavate, geotextile, compacted granular base graded to drain, then the turf laid, seamed, secured and infilled. The base under turf matters as much as under pavers.
Through perforations in the backing into the base beneath, so the base has to be free-draining and graded. Turf over compacted clay with no drainage path holds water and smells — which is what people are remembering when they say they do not like turf.
Generally yes, with the right infill and a properly draining base. It survives traffic that kills grass, and there is no mud. It does need rinsing.
Hotter than grass in direct sun, noticeably so on a south-facing yard with no shade. Worth knowing before you cover a whole backyard rather than a play area.
Service area
Close enough to come back if something needs attention — which matters more than it sounds.
